Aimee Johnson
Hi, my name is Aimee Johnson (she/her). I see clients ages 18 and up through individual and group psychotherapy.
My career began in the mid 90s as an intensive care Registered Nurse. Over the decades, I returned to college for higher degrees, worked in multiple areas of nursing, and finally settled into behavioral health as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
I have extensive training in group leadership and psychotherapy. I’m committed to lifelong learning. Through many years of personal work and professional study, I have had the opportunity to practice, myself, what I offer to you.
My approach is holistic, and appreciative of the profound intertwinement between body, mind, and spirit. I emphasize sleep hygiene, nourishing nutrition, the vitality of physical activity, and the transformative power of mindfulness.
It is an enduring privilege and calling to help others explore and gather the fragments of love, grief, anger, spirituality, loss, fear, anxiety, shame, responsibility, belonging, joy, trauma, breath, and so much more! There is beauty in the broken…the cracked open, and the mended.
Engaging in deliberate personal work with a guide who’s a good match for you will change your life. You are a human with human struggles, not a diagnosis. Be choosy when searching for a therapist.
Please note, that currently, I am not prescribing medication.
"Quotidian" Life: Yoga, creative projects, travel, and behavioral training (for all) with a feisty “four legged” child (dog) who keeps my family and I laughing and taking deep breaths.
A favorite quote:
Psychotherapy bids not only the transformation of the patient, but also the counter-application to the provider of that system which they prescribe in any given case. And in dealing with themselves, the provider must display as much relentlessness, consistency, and perseverance as in dealing with their patients. To work upon themselves with equal concentration is truly no small achievement.
– paraphrased from C.G. Jung

Individual therapy: I draw from a variety of influences and theoretical orientations…attachment theory, relational theory, psychodynamic theory, separation-individuation and more. Authors Francis Weller, Patricia DeYoung, and Brene Brown’s work with grief, sorrow, soul, trauma and shame remain close in mind as I listen, notice, question, feel, and advocate with you.
Group therapy is a powerful agent of change; a relational laboratory that offers opportunities to express and tolerate emotions, practice new skills, and become aware of how each of us relate to ourselves and others. My training in group is influenced by modern analytic theory, Yalom, object relations, systems theory and others.
Group is determined according to type/duration of group, and census.
